NOORDWESTER – MAFIKENG/OTTOSDAL/BOIKHUTSO - In honouring the life and legacy of Nelson Mandela, the Ngaka Modiri Molema Women’s Network and Men For Change in collaboration with Central Region Retired Police, Community Police Forum (CPF), Blue Ribbon, Phallo Construction Supplies, Youth Crime Prevention Desk and the Community in Blue Patrollers gathered together at the TTA District Office to observe the 67minutes for Mandela Day.

The program officially commenced with a word of prayer and encouragement by Mr Lebogang Mokgothu from the Central Region Retired Police, followed by the District Commissioner Major General Mmatlhapi Mmolawa, who welcomed all participants and remarked that: “Cleanliness is next to Godliness”. She further motivated members by saying that this project must be continuous and quoted the Mandela Day theme for 2025: “It’s still in our hands to combat poverty and inequality”.
Colonel Malebogo Magome, the Women’s Network Chairperson, introduced the Men for Change and Women’s Network committee members as well as distinguished guests. Constable Jeanette Pitso, the Deputy Secretary, outlined the order of proceedings, which included cleaning, painting, planting of trees and visits to Danville dumping site, Mahikeng taxi rank, complainants at Mmabatho police station and people roaming the street on Nelson Mandela Street. Approximately  500 individuals were served with a cup of soup, bread and fruit, with the focus on homeless kids, the elderly and the physically challenged.
Major General Mmolawa, Champion of the Women’s Network, emphasised that no matter how little contribution one makes, it definitely makes a difference. She said the team should be the change agents and extended her gratitude to all attendees for their participation. She also thanked all sponsors, Brothers Cash & Carry, Dantys, Fresh Hub market, TAG, International Security & cleaning Services (ISS), Blue Ribbon and Albany bakeries who assisted in making the campaign a success.
Major General Patrick Asaneng, the Acting Provincial Commissioner of North West, rendered a message of support and said: “Charity begins at home; therefore, we must build our own runway for humanity’s sake.”
