NOORDWESTER – VENTERSDORP – A 30-year-old woman was granted R500 bail upon appearance in the Ventersdorp Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 7 February, for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
She is expected to reappear in court on Friday, 7 March. The accused handed herself in on Thursday, 6 February, after becoming aware that members of Potchefstroom Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit were looking for her.

That, after a complaint of apparent abuse of a seven-year-old child was received on Friday, 31 January. 
According to information, the accused, who is the childs’ stepmother, poured boiling water over her. The incident occurred last month at Tshing Location, Ventersdorp. Consequently, the child sustained injuries on her legs and upper body.
Following assessment of the child by a Forensic Social Worker, the Department of Social Development made arrangements for the victim to be taken to her biological mother in KwaZulu-Natal. Investigation into the matter is underway. 
The North West Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng, welcomed the arrest and thanked the whistleblowers and the police for their cooperation and protecting the child from further abuse.
