NOORDWESTER - LICHTENBURG - The sixth annual motorbike ride charity event takes place from Sunday 9 February to Sunday 2 March 2025 - “Doctors for children drive”.
The purpose of the 2025 “Ride for a Child” 7000km charity motorbike ride around South Africa is to “recruit, as a matter of speech” volunteer private General Practitioners in every town they travel through on their annual motorbike ride as part of our “Doctor’s for children” drive.
They plead with participating motorbike clubs, groups, and individual riders to, for example, arrange a fundraising event for the benefit of Pediatric Care Africa during the ride to assist them in their fundraising efforts.
Over the years, supporters of the “Ride for a Child” annual charity motorbike ride, has made it possible for them to assist dozens of children with surgeries and hundreds of persons received free medical care through their medical outreach programs.
Starting and finishing in Oudtshoorn, the route will reach the most Northern, Eastern, Western and Southern points of South Africa that is accessible by road bike. Dr André Hattingh, founder and chairman of Pediatric Care Africa, will be riding on a Road King Harley Davidson. Companies and individuals are invited to sponsor Dr André Hattingh for each 1kme completed, or 10ms completed, or 100kms completed by motorbike. Options: R1 per km, R2 per km or R5 per km completed by the PCA rider, or a straight once off donation of any amount.
In the event of Dr André having an incident or being forced to abandon the charity drive (not being able to continue), sponsors will only pay for the actual kilometres travelled before abandoning the round-trip effort. The odometer reading and a photo of the odometer will be taken on the spot where the ride is abandoned. In the event of a mishap with the Road King Harley Davidson during the ride, Dr Hattingh will switch to a spare motorbike to enable him to complete the charity motorbike ride. The odometers of both bikes will be taken at the point of switch over. Guest riders joining on route are very welcome and are asked to also obtain sponsors for every kilometre they travel and to donate the funds generated to Pediatric Care Africa in aid of surgeries and medical treatment. All guest riders, regardless of distance travelled, qualify to purchase a 2025 Ride for a child badge, as proof of participation. On Friday, 21 February they will be travelling from Thabazimbi to Rustenburg and on Saturday, 22 February from Rustenburg to Vryburg.
