NOORDWESTER - VENTERSDORP - Gert Johannes Krieger Roos (40) appeared before the Ventersdorp Magistrates’ Court for possession of suspected stolen property. He was remanded in custody and will re-appear before the same court on Monday, 30 September.
Roos’ court appearance stems from an incident reported Saturday morning, 21 September. Information was received that a person possibly stole beehives in Lichtenburg and was on the R30 road, close to Ventersdorp.

Ventersdorp Police and Flying Squad were called, and they found a vehicle pulling a trailer with 28 beehives at an estimated value of R50 000.
The driver of the vehicle (Roos) could not account for the beehives and was arrested. Further investigation identified the lawful owner of the beehives, which were handed back to him. Linkages to other theft of beehive cases cannot be ruled out. Investigation into the matter is continuing.
The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, commended the officers for their quick response that led to the apprehension of the perpetrator.
