NOORDWESTER - COLIGNY - As part of ensuring compliance with the Immigration Act, 42 suspected undocumented individuals between the ages of 35 and 56 are expected to appear before the Coligny Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 2 September, for contravention of the Immigration Act, 2002 (Act No.13 of 2002).
This arrest came after a joint operation was conducted by members of the South African Police Service (SAPS) and Immigration Officials on Thursday, 29 August, at a construction site in Coligny, near Lichtenburg.

The illegal immigrants were found working at the site and they include foreign nationals from Lesotho, Malawi and Zimbabwe. They were arrested after failing to confirm their legal status in the country.
Their 53-year-old employer, Sympton Manyena, was also arrested and on Friday, 30 August, paid an admission of guilt fine of R63 000 for employing illegal immigrants in contravention of section 38 of the Immigration Act.
The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, welcomed the arrests and praised all members involved for their tireless efforts and collaboration to enforce this legislation.
