Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp – Three Lesotho men who are illegal immigrants were sent to prison last week.

Lebonejwang Maloka (23), Kananelo Mpara (23) and Teleko Khanare (27) were sentenced on Friday June 21 in the Klerksdorp Magistrates Court. They are guilty of possession of firearms, possession of ammunition and being illegal immigrants.

 

The trio was arrested in October 2022 after they were spotted at Klerksdorp taxi rank in possession of firearms. 

After the police were notified, they were searched and the police recovered two pistols and ammunition. WO Amogelang Mabihi, spokesperson of the Hawks, said they also did not have any legal documents in their possession.

Following a series of court appearances, they were convicted and sentenced. Maloka and Mpara were both sentenced to eight years imprisonment for possession of firearms, four years for possession of ammunition and one year for being an illegal immigrant. 

Khanare was sentenced to four years behind bars for being in possession of ammunition and one year as an illegal immigrant.
