Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The North West Provincial Commissioner, Lt-Genl Sello Kwena, urged members to use available services of the police’s employee Health and Wellness (EHW) to get psychosocial support after two police officers took their own lives recently.
Lt-Col Willem Pretorius known as Spikes, attached to provincial Tactical Response Team (TRT), shot and killed himself at his favourite fishing spot at Mooibank outside Potchefstroom. His body was discovered early Sunday morning May 19.
No foul play is suspected and an inquest docket has been opened after his death. Pretorius was recently divorced and has two children. His funeral service will take place at NH Morester, next to the N12, at 10:00 on Saturday May 25.
In another suicide in Dithakong village, a Warrant Officer (58) attached to Mahikeng Public Order Police (POP), shot and killed his wife (46), then turned the gun on himself.
