BRITS POS – BRITS - In continuous efforts to keep the province safe and secure, high density “Operation Shanela” conducted in the Province between Monday, 29 January and Sunday, 4 February, ensured that 814 suspects were nabbed for numerous crimes.
The arrested suspects included 47 for drug related offences, 20 for illegal dealing in liquor, 30 for driving under the influence of liquor, two for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition. Furthermore, 165 arrests were made for serious and violent crimes that included murder, for assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm (GBH) and 62 assault common and rape. Of the 814 suspects, 271 suspects were arrested during detective suspect raiding operations.

BRITS POS – BRITS - A new International Energy Agency (IEA) report on electricity highlights that per person electricity demand across Africa has been stagnant for three decades, making the continent a worrying outlier in electricity demand trends.
As of 2023, 600-million people, or more than 40% of the African population, lacked access to electricity, mostly in sub-Saharan Africa. The authors of the ‘Electricity 2024’ report note that, while electricity use per capita has risen rapidly over the past 30 years in India and Southeast Asia, it has flatlined in Africa, with negative implications for economic development and growth.
