Klerksdorp Record, Stilfontein - The toddler who was found dead in a well-known drug den in Stilfontein, was laid to rest this week.

Klerksdorp Record was reliably told that the post mortem done on Kelvin Niewenhuizen shows he suffered a skull fracture. His grandmother and her boyfriend are expected to apply for bail on Thursday May 29 as the case was rolled over from Tuesday May 27.

Meanwhile, NG Welsyn (NGW) Klerksdorp issued a statement after people speculated on Facebook that a social worker at their office was suspended for failing to intervene on behalf of the baby boy.”

“We are deeply saddened by the tragic death of a young child in the Stilfontein community. Our hearts go out to everyone affected by this devastating loss, and we join the community in mourning this young boy’s life.’’

NGW disclosed that the family was reported to the Klerksdorp office during January this year. “The social worker acted within the scope of the law and followed all due procedures. No indications were found during a home visit that the child’s safety was at risk. The only adults present in the home at that time were the mother and the grandmother. The alleged perpetrator was not staying with the family at that stage.’’

Because NGW is bound by strict confidentiality laws to protect the privacy of children and families served, they chose not to comment further. “NGW is fully cooperating with all relevant authorities in the ongoing investigation. We are committed to transparency, accountability, and the protection of vulnerable children - our foremost priority in every case we handle. In times like these, we are reminded of the importance of truth, due process, and compassion. NGW remains dedicated to the safety, welfare, and dignity of every child and family we serve,’’ the statement ended.
