Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - No bomb crackers were set off at the Portuguese Hall on New Year’s Eve.
That is how Robbie Rossouw, organiser of the fireworks event on New Year’s Eve, responded to Klerksdorp Record’s questions about the complaints received.
He is adamant that he did everything by the book, had approval from the emergency services and was monitored by the police. “I am enemy no 1 on social media and gets the blame for all the fireworks set off in the area when we only started at just after midnight and it lasted till 00:15, and no bomb crackers were used.
“We also heard the bomb crackers and that is the main complaint, but it wasn’t us,” he said.
He added the Portuguese Hall is not in a neighbourhood and the show shouldn’t be a problem. “We received complaints from people far away from the hall, and gets blamed for all the fireworks. It wasn’t us. I feel sorry for the animals though.”
He promises an even better show for 2025 New Year’s Eve.
