Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - A local filmmaker will screen his short film at Ster-Kinekor in Matlosana Mall on Saturday February 8.

Percy Madidola is a man on a mission. He grew up in North West and gained experience by filming weddings and corporate events. Now he has made a short film called Tsela Kgopo.

It was executed only with a volun-teered crew and cast. The film is a psychological thriller based on a Setswana idiom/proverb “Tsela kgopo ga e latse nageng”. Loosely translated, it means you will never get lost if you ask for directions.

He describes the film as having an engaging narrative that slowly builds in suspense, extends to the pressures of life and lends to a journey of introspection. Tsela Kgopo is a journey back to self. What inspired the story itself is how isolated one can be due to their inner world, yet as isolated as a person can be, they go through these experiences together.

He told Klerksdorp Record his passion for film and all things video-graphy was sparked at a very young age. “I remember being 6 years old at my aunt’s wedding, admiring this man who was following the couple everywhere with a camera. This man (who would later become a colleague in videography) did not know it then, but on that day he birthed a seed that would manifest over the years into a passion and in turn into a profession.”

Fast forward years later, at the tender age of 18, he unknowingly at the time shot his very first short film while still in varsity. What he themed “What’s Cooking” became a mini-series of multiple episodes portraying the life of students in a humorous yet relatable way and it quickly grew in popularity and hype on campus.

“The objective with this film is to help build and grow a portfolio for myself and for the volunteers. Not only that, but also to show the up-and-coming creatives from all types of businesses and backgrounds that you can start with the little that you have to build a name and gain recognition.“

Film tickets can be bought on Quicket.
