Learners were awarded for their efforts they put into their school work despite the social challenges they find themselves in.
Some are from destitute families where parents and guardians are unemployed and they live from hand to mouth.
The acting principal, Priscilla Mojaki, applauded the educators for putting shoulder behind the wheel throughout these torrid times where they work with learners who are duped by their peers.
NGO’s fight unemployment, grant fiasco
Lentswe, Jouberton - AGA Sechaba together with Tigane Advice Centre, Justice & Peace, Monna Sechabeng, Jouberton Legal Advice Centre and churches have decided to intervene in the ever-growing problems of rampant unemployment and help recipients of the R350 Social Relief of Distress (SRD) Grants being declined on a daily basis in Matlosana by SASSA.
Art teacher shapes young minds
Lentswe, Orkney - Rethabile Weevirs is a self-taught artist based in Orkney.
She is an art teacher at the Giving Spring Foundation Learning Center and says she is dedicated to teaching art skills to the youth in Jouberton Ext 12 and Orkney. “My expertise lies in providing art and painting lessons to children aged between 4 and 16 within my local community.’’
Disability community wants action
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The disability community in Matlosana has been largely overlooked and underserved, despite the good intentions of the government and the mayor’s office. This is the opinion of the Dr Kenneth Kaunda Disability District Forum Secretary, Tlwaelo Witkoei. According to him, the community faces a lack of coordination, communication, and resources that has hindered meaningful engagement and participation.
Small town mom turns pageant queen
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The new Mrs Royal Star Africa is La Hoff resident Koketso Penny Moemi-Makau. The competition is at international level, for which South Africa was the host country for 2023. As Mrs Royal Star Africa she will be representing the continent against other countries in March 2024. “I entered this as a reminder to myself and other married women that it’s never too late to revisit your dreams and turn them into reality. It was also important that I get the crown, as a pageant boss myself it serves as a reminder to my models that they can achieve anything they set their minds to,’’ she said.
