Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS) in North West will collaborate with the Municipalities, the communities and various stakeholders with regard to its advocacy programmes in March, to commemorate World Water Day on March 22. The focus of World Water Day is on the global water crisis and aims to raise awareness of the 2.2 billion people living without access to safe water and aspire nations for longer-term action, to ensure that everyone in the world has access to safe water by 2030.
Police officers rewarded for loyal service
Lentswe, Potchefstroom - The Provincial Police Commissioner, Lt Gen Sello Kwena awarded medals for loyal service to numerous police officers at the Provincial Head Office at Wespol Square recently.
The awards were handed over on March 1. Amongst the medal reci-pients, eight members received their 40 year loyal service medals and others were handed 30- and 20 year loyal service medals.
Kwena said it is the responsibility of police management to recognise good work and to boost the morale of members, taking into consideration the difficult situation under which police officials work.
Four dead after random shootings
Lentswe, Klerksdorp – Four men were killed in two separate shootings within two days of each other. At this stage, the shootings don’t seem to be connected. The latest incident happened in Orkney on Saturday night March 2 at 23:00 when two men died in a hail of bullets while driving in Shalot Maxeke Avenue.
Five men in court on fraud charges
Lentswe, Orkney - Five suspects appeared in the local magistrate’s court after allegedly stealing R290 000 from a Road Accident Fund (RAF) claim. Tehogo Kgang (31), Tebogo Chosi (32), Tlale Tshabalala (46), Lebogang Sedumedi (47) and Zamile Maroti (51) in the Orkney Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday March 5, facing charges of fraud and money laundering.
Traffic cop shoots fleeing suspect
Lentswe, Orkney - Police in Orkney are investigating a shooting in the industrial area where a truck driver was shot by a traffic officer. Details as to what happened at the scene of the crime on Sunday afternoon February 25 are still sketchy.
