Lentswe, Orkney - More than 20 illegal miners were arrested after they surrendered themselves to police when they resurfaced from underground. 
The Zama-zamas voluntarily exited the shaft in Lourenspark on Saturday January 27. Brig Sabatha Mokgwabone, police spokesperson, said 23 men exited the shaft. “Two of the illegal miners were found with gold bearing material, and will also face charges to that affect.’’3 The miners were charged with trespassing and illegal mining. They were expected to appear in the Orkney Magistrates Court this week.

Lentswe, Khuma - In Khuma, a crime intelligence driven operation by the Dr Kenneth Kaunda Illicit Mining Team resulted in the arrest of Lesotho national (41) on Thursday January 25, at Ext 6 kraals, Khuma, for unlawful possession of ammunition. According to Brig Sabatha Mokgwabone, police spokesperson, intelligence was received that the suspect was in possession of ammunition. “SAPS searched the suspect’s place and found him in possession of 35 AK 47, 43 x 9mm, nine .38, two shotgun, two 7.65, 10 x 40mm and 28 rounds of other ammunition.

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The owner of the Samambu Funeral Parlour, Peter Maponyane (34), was shot dead in his vehicle that was parked outside the business. The scene reminded of something out of an assassin film. It was raining while police officers processed the crime scene on Tuesday evening January 30.  Several shots rang out just before 20:00 killing the businessman sitting in his grey Mercedes Benz. He was probably waiting for his wife who was still busy inside the business.

Lentswe, Orkney - Two hijackers died after speeding away from the police in a stolen vehicle and then losing control. The vehicle was stolen during the night of January 23 from the taxi terminus where the owner of the car is believed to have been lying down and sleeping. According to Captain Aafje Botma, police spokesperson, the 46-year-old man was pulled from his vehicle and the two robbers jumped into it and drove away.

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The Indian Consulate, led by Consul General Mahesh Kumar, visited the city earlier in January to seek investment opportunities.
The delegation from the consulate was welcomed by the management of the City of Matlosana, led by Executive Mayor Cllr James Tsolela, as well as members of the Wesvaal Chamber of Business. The purpose of the visit was solely to seek investment opportunities and to initiate possible collaborations between the Indian government and Matlosana municipality.
