Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The tests to provide ex-mineworkers and their beneficiaries with access to compensation benefits for occupational lung diseases and other social protection funds are ongoing at Westvaal Hospital. According to the project coordinator, Tsietsi Letsedi, this project started two and a half years ago and 128 000 ex miners and their families have been assessed. “We have a list and do track and tracing. Our estimate is that 148 000 ex miners still have to be assessed. This is for all ex miners; across all mines,” he said.

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - People came in numbers to remind themselves of their heritage, said Leano la bophelo founder, Rathebe Mojaki at the end of their heritage celebration at Goudkoppie. The event was attended by dignitaries from Provincial departments of Sports, Arts and Culture, Education, City of Matlosana, North West University and more persons contributing to the heritage, arts and craft fraternity. Dignitaries could not stop singing songs of praise of the event that united the communities of Matlosana. Local artists and crafters showcased their talent through dance, song, display, marketing and selling of art work.

Lentswe, Stilfontein - A local police constable was busted with gold bearing material last week. Colonel Adéle Myburgh, police spokesperson, reported that the case was transferred to the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) for investigation as it has to do with illegal mining. The police officer, is one of two men who were caught in Khuma Ext 1 on September 27, while they were allegedly in the process of refining gold bearing material.  

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The police are busy linking a hijacking ring operating in this part of North West after the arrest of one of its operators in Klerksdorp this week. The stop and search conducted by police officers from the K9 unit on Saturday September 28 when they noticed an Isuzu truck busy losing its cargo while driving in Wilkeville yielded a surprising result when they discovered a crime.
