Lentswe, Jouberton - The Matlosana Chess Academy hosted a tournament this past weekend at Ledibeng Centre (old Roman Catholic Church). The mission of the academy is to make chess popular in the townships and produce world class players.
Sport against crime
Lentswe, Kanana - A football tournament over Easter will send a message of sport against crime and GBV. The MPG kasi Easter tournament will be held at Kanana’s Mpheqeke stadium from April 18-20. All teams are invited to take part. The scouting of local talent in the area is the first priority. Children need to take part in sport to stay away from crime and drugs.
Athlete with a bright future
Alberto Mogoje from Excelsior Primary School ran an excellent race at provincial level. He finished second in the 1 200 m.
Athletes qualify for Nationals
Two athletes from Ithuseng Primary School participated in the provincial athletics meeting in Potchefstroom on March 7. Both athletes participated in u10 1200m. Williams Kgothatso ended third with 3:57. He qualified for the Nationals in Boksburg from March 20-21. Nomalanga Malefo ended fourth with 4:23. She also qualified for the Nationals. NW wins gold in jukskei
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Young black players are taking up the sport of jukskei. The Senior Academy tournament in jukskei was recently held in Kroonstad. It took place on February 24 and 28. North West performed very well in the B division. The team won gold in the team event, silver in the doubles, and gold in the trips. Four players were selected for the academy team. Next weekend (March 8) a major event will take place in Klerksdorp with 23 teams registered.
