Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Klerksdorp hosted the North West Sports Awards which took place this past weekend. Local sports stars were honoured at a gala event on Friday November 23 at Rio Casino. The theme was fittingly “Night of the Stars”. Mona Beukes was named coach of the year. She is known as a dance coach and some of her students have excelled internationally.

It will be held at the Manzilpark Hall on Saturday November 23 and will be conducted by Sensei Thomas Mayekani, Sensei Khehla Jele from Gauteng and Sensei Tebogo Moloane.

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Matlosana Mall held its annual glow in the dark run last week. Athletes received glow in the dark arm bands and neon facepaint with their entries which set the scene for a fun evening on Thursday November 14. There was a 2,5 km, 5 km and 10 km option which saw athletes running through the underground parking and then in behind the mall.

Ogone Mosala from Excelsior Primary School was named sportsman of the year for three consecutive years. In 2023, he took part in the nationals representing the NW province.  This year he qualified for nationals with a time record of 11.86 seconds in the 100m. 

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Klerksdorp Swimming Acade-my hosted a water safety education and drowning prevention program, the Swim4Safety Project), at Leseding Primary School in Khuma. The event, on November 2, brought together water safety experts from NSRI (National Sea Rescue Institute), sport development professionals from Athletes In Need/Sportistic, community leaders, including Pastor Mohale from The African Star Church in Zion, Cllr Sipho Majiji (Ward 31) and former Executive Mayor Cllr James Tsolela.
Cllr Majiji reaffirmed the council’s commitment to serving the community, praising partnerships like Swim4Safety that drive service delivery and positive change.
