NOORDWESTER – OTTOSHOOP - A Crime Intelligence driven operation by Zeerust K9, Ottoshoop Visible Policing, Customs Officials, Mahikeng Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (DPCI) and Mahikeng Local Criminal Centre (LCRC) led to the arrest of a Chinese foreign national and accomplice for possession of illicit cigarettes on Wednesday, 
30 October in Ottoshoop.   

The suspects were arrested after the team operationalised information regarding the suspected dealing in illicit cigarettes. According to information, the suspects’ white Mercedes Benz Sprinter was traced to the R49 between Mahikeng and Ottoshoop where the vehicle was stopped at midday near a bridge. The vehicle and two occupants were searched. 
During the search, the team found 40 cases of Remington Gold cigarettes with an estimated value of R560 000. The occupants were placed under arrest after failing to account for the goods.
Huan Chen (37) and Tshepo Lehokwa (22) appeared before the Mmabatho Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 1 November for possession of counterfeit cigarettes and the case was postponed to Saturday, 2 November.  
Chen was given R15 000 bail and Lehokwa R500. Their next court appearance was this past  Monday, 4 November.
