STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: The North West Department of Education, in collaboration with North West University (NWU) Mahikeng Campus, hosted the province’s first-ever FET Phase Spelling Bee Competition on Saturday, 16 August 2025.
Conducted in English, Afrikaans, and Setswana, the event brought together 100 high school learners from across the province, each selected through their schools to represent their districts.

STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: Die Rainbow Kids-toernooi van Tennis Suid-Afrika (TSA) is Saterdag, 16 Augustus, by die Ramblers Tennisklub in Vryburg deur Tennetics Tennis Akademie aangebied.
Jong spelers onder die ouderdom van 10 jaar van Kuruman, Hartswater, Botswana en Vryburg het met groot entoesiasme aan die enkel- en dubbelwedstryde deelgeneem. In die oranjebal-afdeling het almal medaljes ontvang, terwyl die groenbal-afdeling uitsonderlike prestasies uitgelig het.
Sterk debuut vir VAPS HCV Rally-Raid-span in Parys
STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: Die nuwe VAPS HCV Rally-Raid-span het die afgelope naweek ’n indrukwekkende nasionale debuut gemaak tydens die Parys 400, die tweede en derde rondes van die 2025 Suid-Afrikaanse Nasionale Rally-Raid-kampioenskap wat op 15 en 16 Augustus in die Vrystaat beslis is.
Peet Victor en Van Zyl Jonck het in hul Red-Lined VK50-2 ’n puik derde plek in die mededingende T1-klas behaal, terwyl hul spanmaats, Abrie Olivier en Iaan Olivier, kort agter hulle in die vierde plek geëindig het met hul Red-Lined VK50-1.
1.5 million people jobless in North West deepens the crisis
STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: The North West province continues to record the highest unemployment rate in South Africa, according to the 2nd Quarter Labour Force Survey released by Statistics South Africa on Wednesday, 13 August.
The official unemployment rate stands at 40.1%, reflecting a slight 0.3% drop from the previous quarter and a 1.2% decline compared with the same period last year. The expanded unemployment rate, which includes discouraged job seekers, remains alarmingly high at 54.7%, with over 1.5 million residents without work.
Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra Presents World Première of Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 Concert Film
STELLALANDER-VRYBURG: The Mzansi National Philharmonic Orchestra (Mzansi Philharmonic), in partnership with Ster-Kinekor, proudly announces the world première of its concert film, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9, directed by award-winning filmmaker Francois Verster.
The film was screened nationwide from 25 to 30 July 2025, offering South African audiences a historic cinematic experience. Conducted by the acclaimed Marin Alsop, this groundbreaking concert film was recorded live at Cape Town City Hall in 2022.
