Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - Klerksdorp Hospital has been experiencing water supply problems since last week. According to Dr Nkanyana Leburu, acting CEO of the Klerksdorp/Tshepong Hospital Complex, the hospital is experiencing this water shortage after “deliberate damage” to its Archbishop Tutu Street reservoir and “shameful theft” of four pumps that enabled uninterrupted water supply to Klerksdorp Hospital. This sabotage allegedly took place on Tuesday May 28.

In addition, there is low water pressure from the municipality coming into the hospital, which contributes to water outage across critical service areas.

“Management and the Public Works team have been working over the weekend to restore the water supply.
“Currently, there is a team on site assisting in solving this emergency, and that entails installation of a bigger pump and possibly replacement of current pipes with bigger ones at the boreholes’ water storage,” said Leburu.
This issue has affected other services such as operations and dialysis of patients. All emergency operations have been taken to Tshepong Hospital.

“Management requests the community to bear with them as they are taking this intervention up on emergency basis even though this matter is beyond the hospital’s capacity. However, all precautionary measures are put in place to ease the situation.”
