NOORDWESTER - BIESIESVLEI – Creating a nurturing environment where every learner feels valued, safe and empowered to reach their potential, the Biesiesvlei South African Police Service in partnership with the Community Police Forum visited Zooihuis Primary School on Friday, 7 February.

“Ride for a child” charity event in province
NOORDWESTER - LICHTENBURG - The sixth annual motorbike ride charity event takes place from Sunday 9 February to Sunday 2 March 2025 - “Doctors for children drive”.
The purpose of the 2025 “Ride for a Child” 7000km charity motorbike ride around South Africa is to “recruit, as a matter of speech” volunteer private General Practitioners in every town they travel through on their annual motorbike ride as part of our “Doctor’s for children” drive.
Stepmother appears in court for alleged abuse of stepdaughter
NOORDWESTER – VENTERSDORP – A 30-year-old woman was granted R500 bail upon appearance in the Ventersdorp Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 7 February, for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.
She is expected to reappear in court on Friday, 7 March. The accused handed herself in on Thursday, 6 February, after becoming aware that members of Potchefstroom Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit were looking for her.
Duo appears in court for alleged dealing in drugs
NOORDWESTER – ZEERUST - Kaunda Martin (38), a Zambian national, and Mkumba Jafari Hamisi (41), a Tanzanian national, appeared in the Zeerust Magistrates’ Court on Friday, 31 January, on charges of dealing in drugs.
The pair was arrested by members of the Zeerust K9 on Wednesday, 29 January.
It is reported that police received information about a truck alleged to be transporting drugs from Tanzania to Johannesburg.
1985 Alumni verewig Liggies-naam in WAT vir Afrikaans eeufees
NOORDWESTER – LICHTENBURG - Geskiedenis is die afgelope naweek gemaak en Liggies van toeka, nou en in die toekoms kan seëvier in die wete dat hul alumni-noemnaam nou amptelik deel is van die Afrikaanse taal.
Die Woordeboek van die Afrikaanse Taal (WAT) se sertifikaat van erkenning van die woord “Liggies” as naam vir alumni van die skool is Saterdag as geskenk aan die hoof, Marthinus Stoop, oorhandig tydens die 40ste reünie van die skool se 1985 matrieks. “Vir die eerste keer in die geskiedenis is daar ‘n woord in die WAT geallokeer aan ‘n skool. “Liggies” se vierde betekenis in die WAT sê: “Liggies. Alumni van Hoërskool Lichtenburg”.
