NOORDWESTER – LICHTENBURG – Nie ‘n enkele Noordwes-munisipaliteit het ‘n skoon ouditverslag vir die 2022/23-boekjaar bekom nie, net soos inwoners regoor die provinsie sukkel om toegang tot skoon drinkwater te kry.
Aan die einde van die 2022/23-boekjaar het Noordwes-munisipaliteite R160 miljoen se voorwaardelike toelaagbefondsing aan die nasionale tesourie teruggegee wat bedoel is vir die instandhouding en verbetering van waterinfrastruktuur. Agt munisipaliteite het meer as R300 miljoen se finansiële verliese aangeteken weens waterlekkasies ten bedrae van meer as 35% van alle gesuiwerde pypwater.
Businesses encouraged to mark streets
NOORDWESTER – LICHTENBURG – Antonios Ziazias, owner of Sanlam Centre, encourages all businesses to tackle much-needed marking of streets in town.
Last week, Ziazias, along with his son and work team, marked and painted a section of Dr Nelson Mandela Road and covered all the expenses themselves.
According to Ziazias “It can be done. If we just take the necessary steps, use some initiative and stand together.
Members excited for trip
The Central Region Retired Police Legends recently had their monthly meeting in Mahikeng.
The main points of discussion were (firstly) the preparation of the year end function in December and (secondly) a trip to Thaba Nchu, next year in March where the AGM Conference for all regions will take place, chairperson Paul Mogotsi confirmed.
Eisteddfod in Sannieshof
NOORDWESTER – SANNIESHOF - Hoërskool Sannieshof se musieksentrum, onder leiding van Adrie Schutte (Noordwes-verteenwoordiger vir die Allegretto Eisteddfod in ons area), het die eerste Interprovinsiale Allegretto Eisteddfod onlangs in Sannieshof aangebied.
Meer as 426 kinders het deelgeneem aan items soos: 170 musiekinskrywings, klavier, dromme, viool, tjello, fluit, kitaar en ukelele, asook 35 Afrikaanse spraak en drama-inskrywings en 12 Engelse spraak en drama-inskrywings.
Ten years for murder
NOORDWESTER -WOLMARANSSTAD - The Wolmaransstad Magistrates’ Court sentenced Dodo Oliphant (32) to ten years imprisonment on Thursday, 16 August.
Oliphant’s sentencing stems from his arrest on Saturday, 2 November 2019, for assaulting and stabbing his girlfriend to death. The court heard that Oliphant became angry after he visited and found his girlfriend, then aged 28, with another boyfriend at her residence in Tswelelang Township, outside Wolmaransstad. The convict stabbed the boyfriend, who ran away.
