Klerksdorp Record, Orkney - The first round of the battle of the clubs was presented with a resounding success at the Vaal River Boating Club on Sunday May 19.
The event started with the 60 km mini long haul that was run up and down the river in an exciting race. The first lap consisted of 16 km and the boats had to do four laps. Jono Schmidt (M35) who showed some incredible high speeds, unfortunately had to pull out of the race because of a cracked block. This caused a damper on the event, as everybody was waiting to see the long awaited challenge between him and the current world champion, Klerksdorp adrenaline junkie Renier le Roux.
It takes a man on a horse...
Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Jean-Jacques Kasselman (JJ) did Klerksdorp proud in the recent Fauresmith Endurance Ride (SAIC).
The young dad competed in both the 80km and 119km rides. He finished the 80 km on his horse, BF Assault in a winning time of 3:52:44 - bringing home the Best Conditioned award in this division as well as Best of the Best.
Kanaries op skou
Die Klerksdorp Kanarieklub bestaan reeds sedert 1958 en het die naweek van 10-11 Mei weer ‘n Klerksdorp Kanarieskou aangebied. Die skouwenners is Dries en Martie Wiese, Steyn Groenewald, Obie Oberholster, Hannes Smith, Anton Engelbrecht en (voor) Rassie Erasmus, Piet Reyneke, Frikkie Bothma, Johan Pretorius, Jan Greyvenstein en Johan Smith. Die skou was ‘n reuse sukses. Uitstallers het van heinde en ver gekom. Best inflatable pilots in action
Klerksdorp Record, Orkney - The Vaal River boat club will this weekend be the host for the battle of the clubs championship on Sunday May 19.
This event is a first for the North West province and promises to be action packed. All the best inland inflatable boat pilots and co-pilots will be in action for the prestigious event that will start at 09:00 with the 60 km long haul. The circuit event that consists of two elimination heats and one finale will start at 12:00 at the club house.
NWU’s best at Paris Olympics
Klerksdorp Record, Potchefstroom - In a little more than two months, the 2024 Olympic Games will be hosted in Paris, and a number of North-West University (NWU) students will get to be involved in the prestigious event.
Although the squads - including the management teams - have not been finalised, it can be confirmed that 400 m hurdles star Rogail Joseph, 200 m and 4 x 100 m sprinter Benjamin Richardson, javelin supremo Jo-Ané van Dyk and 4 x 100 m racer Bradley Nkoana have been included in the South African squad.
