Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - The latest crime figures released by the police have revealed alarming agricultural-related crime rates. The report, covering the period between July and September 2023, highlights several concerning trends in crime against farmers and agricultural communities across the country.
Bikes and toys
Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - The annual Toy Run is taking place this Sunday (November 26). This year a bike is up for grabs in the raffle.
The entrance fee to take part in the run is a toy or a donation. The starting point for bikers is at the Pick n Pay Hyper. The mass ride will start at 09:00, covering Orkney, Stilfontein and back to Klerksdorp (65 km). The end point is the Portuguese Hall. There will be a cash bar, food stalls and Tanya V will perform.
New garden of remembrance
Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - The Sanpark Rehabilitation Centre revealed its Garden of Remembrance over the weekend. According to Annaleen van Staden, director, the centre was started in 1963 by the Bekker family. It was previously known as the Bekker Clinic. The name changed in the early 90’s. “It was also the unveiling of our Wall of Remembrance for staff members and volunteers that passed on while in the service of Sanpark. The Wall was unveiled by the executive mayor of Matlosana, James Tsolela, on behalf of the MEC for Social Development,” she said.

Art teacher shapes young minds
Klerksdorp Midweek, Orkney - Rethabile Weevirs is a self-taught artist based in Orkney. She is an art teacher at the Giving Spring Foundation Learning Center and says she is dedicated to teaching art skills to the youth in Jouberton Ext 12 and Orkney. “My expertise lies in providing art and painting lessons to children aged between 4 and 16 within my local community.’’
