Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - SASSA reminded recipients that grants will automatically lapse if you pass away or if you move and no longer live permanently in South Africa. Also, if your health deteriorates and you have to move into a state care institution. Similarly, you are not allowed to receive more than one SASSA grant at a time, therefore you cannot receive War Veterans, Child Support, SRD, Disability or any of the others simultaneously.

Moreover, the agency says the most common reasons for exclusion after a review is if you no longer comply with the asset and means tests. SASSA must alert you in writing three-month before your grant is reviewed. This is so you have enough time to get your personal finances in order to prove your means.

Here’s what applicants must produce to the government agency to secure old-age pension grants. Don’t forget, applications can only be done in-person at a Sassa office so a staff member can assist you.

Applicants can take up to three months to be approved, upon which you will be back paid from the application date.

The documents are not available online beforehand and if you have a family member or friend apply on your behalf, they will need a letter from you and/or a doctor explaining why you can’t apply yourself. These documentation need to be taken to a police station and certified by a commissioner of oaths in that instance: 13-digit barcoded identity document (ID), proof of your marital status, a proof of residence (utility bill with your name on it), papers confirming your proof of income and/or dividend, information regarding all your assets, including the value of the property you own, declaration of a private pension (if applicable), three months’ statements certified by your bank, unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) membership ‘blue book’ or discharge certificate from your previous employer and copy of your will and first and final liquidation and distribution accounts if you were married but your spouse has passed away in the last five years.

Take note of the remaining payment dates for the rest of 2024, so you know when your next old-age pension grants are due: July 2, August 2, September 3, October 2, November 5 and December 3.
