Klerksdorp Midweek, Mahikeng - Omphile Makhobosi and Palesa Mphela, members of the North-West University’s (NWU’s) dance team on the Mahikeng Campus, have been selected to represent South Africa at the 2024 World Dance Sport Federation (WDSF) World Championship’s Latin U21 competition. The prestigious event will take place on November 16 in Salaspils, Latvia. Prince Gontse Motaung, their head coach and mana-ger, has also been selected as national coach and manager. This selection has earned them national Protea colours. Palesa says this achievement is a testament to the power of dreams, hard work and perseverance.
“I am humbled and thrilled to have the chance to showcase my skills on an international level and to carry the name of my country with honour.”
She adds that the journey has been tough, but that every drop of sweat, every tear shed, and every ounce of effort has been worth it. “I am grateful to my coach, my teammates and loved ones who have supported and believed in me throughout this journey. Their encouragement and guidance have been invaluable. I am also grateful to the federation for providing us with a platform to grow and excel.”
Omphile says this opportunity is not only a personal milestone, but also a significant responsibility.
“I feel a profound sense of pride and gratitude for the trust placed in me. I am committed to giving my very best and representing my country with excellence, dedication and integrity.”
He adds that this experience is a unique chance to learn, grow and connect with talented individuals from around the world. “I am eager to embrace this journey and I am grateful for this incredible honour and for the university’s support.”
