Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The latest unemployment figures were released this week painting a bleak picture of the North West province. It is the only province in South Africa where there are more unemployed people than employed people. The NW unemployment rate is 51.2%, closely followed by Mpumalanga, which sits at 46.7%. The latest Quarterly Labour Force Survey (QFLS), published by Statistics South Africa on Tuesday November 14, shows that the official unemployment decreased by 0.7% from 32.6% in the second quarter of 2023 to 31.9% in the third quarter.
Mayor suspends MMC over diesel theft
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The MMC Macro City and Planning & Development in the Matlosana Municipality was put on special leave, pending an investigation into the alleged theft of diesel. Moagi Kodisang, and several unnamed others, were allegedly seen filling their vehicles with diesel at the Fresh Produce Market. The theft was caught on CCTV camera.

Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Sassa released payment dates for grants up to January. At the end of October, November’s grants will be paid as follows: Older Persons Grants: November 2, Disability Grants: November 3 and Child Support Grants, Foster Child Grants, Care Dependency Grants and War Veterans Grants on November 6. The SRD Grants will be paid between November 24 and 30.

Body pulled from river near Orkney
Police vehicles at the scene where the body of an unknown man was found in the Vaal River. According to W/O Elize van Schalkwyk, police spokesperson, the police were called at around 15:30 on Friday 3 November after a floating body was seen in the Vaal River. It was spotted about 100m downstream from the Boating Club. Capt Brent Browning and W/O Fred Leach were deployed to recover the body. “It is a black man, between 30 and 50 years old.
