Legal Aid SA gives wider access to legal services
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - A wider group of South Africans now qualify for free legal aid after Legal Aid SA revised its “means test’’.
The test is used to determine if applicants qualify for legal aid and was revised upwards to cater for increases in the Consumer Price Index. This will enable access to legal services to a wider group of people. The changes came into effect on Monday, April 1. Below is a summary of the new Means Test thresholds.
Churches pray for Matlosana
On Saturday March 23, the office of the Executive Mayor, led by Cllr James Tsolela, hosted interdenominational churches at the Recreation Centre. They prayed for the people of Matlosana to be safe with their loved ones during upcoming Easter holidays.
Arrests for murder, assault and burglary
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - “Operation Shanela” operations conducted in the province resulted in the arrest of 995 suspects. The arrests are for crimes such as murder, attempted murder, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm and common, dealing in drugs, illegal dealing in liquor, possession of drugs, and burglary at business and residential premises, malicious damage to property and driving under the influence of alcohol.
Scammers busted in operation
Lentswe, Jouberton - Eight people were arrested for their involvement in a crime syndicate that attempted to scam a man into buying a vehicle from them but all they wanted was his money. Brigadier Sabata Mokgwabone, police spokesperson, reported that Crime Intelligence interviewed the victims of the crime following the attempted armed robbery that occurred in Jouberton last month.
