Lentswe, Klerksdorp - Shinkyokushinkai KZN hosted a provincial karate tournament this past weekend at the Umlazi M hall.
The event was hotly contested by the 410 participants from all provinces, with the host having the most winners on the day.
Team Tom from Matlosana registered 37 juniors and 7 senior fighters, where they emerged victorious with 15 winners and 2 from the senior category, who both won their respective categories. The next event will be the “local is lekker” tournament which will be held at the Alabama Hall on June 15.
Big names in marathon
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The N12 Marathon will boast with some of the best runners in the country at the starting line. Onnalena Khonkhobe, David Manja, Adele Broodryk and Joel Mmone will be in the field on Saturday May 4. These stars have won national marathons and competed at national and international level, such as Khonkhobe winning the Two Oceans and Mmone competing at the World Half Marathon Championships.
Two Oceans medal returns to Klerksdorp
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The winner of last weekend’s Two Oceans Marathon is a child of the Northwest: Onnelenna Khonkhobe. He recently moved to Jouberton and runs for the Nedbank Running Club.
He started running marathons only two years ago and that same year set a new record in the Klerksdorp Marathon in 2022. His win in Cape Town on Saturday April 13 came as a big surprise to him.
Mini netball in NW
Lentswe, Klerksdorp - The PEP mini Netball programme will be expanded to North West following last year’s success.
2024 will see 30 festivals being supported across six provinces to the development of youth netball in South Africa.
Young speedster from Alabama
Ogone Mosala of Excelsior Primary School in Alabama competed at the SA Primary School Championships. He was second in the third semi-final of the 100m for u/13. His time was 12,28 seconds.
