Klerksdorp Record, Potchefstroom - Entries for the Sasol New Signatures Art Competition 2024 have officially opened, and the Main Museum in Potchefstroom is this year added as a new collection point for art entered in the North West Province.
“This will give emerging artists from the greater North West Province an avenue to showcase their talent and underscores the competition’s commitment to developing and celebrating the visual arts in all parts of the country,” says Pfunzo Sidogi, Chairperson of Sasol New Signatures.
New book on crisis management in sport
Klerksdorp Record, Johannesburg - Well-known sports administrator whose roots are firmly planted in Klerksdorp, Jacques Faul, launched his book, Crisis Management in Sport, at Wanderers Cricket Stadium last week.
Dr Faul, CEO at Titans Cricket, also contributed to Prof Wim Hollander and Dr Louis Nolte’s The Management of Sport of South Africa.
The book titled Crisis Management in Sport: Dealing with Challenges on and off the Field talks about the transformative journey through South African sport.
Dankie tog die gras is gesny
Klerksdorp Rekord, Klerksdorp - Plaaslike parkrunners is dankbaar noudat die voëlpark se gras gesny is, want dit het byna skouerhoogte gestaan en veral bejaardes en kinders wat aan die parkrun deelgeneem het, verdwerg.
AfriForum se Klerksdorp-tak het onlangs die netheid en veiligheid van die voëlpark in sy eie hande geneem deur die lang gras te sny waar deur talle inwoners weekliks die Parkrun moet hardloop.
Dié park word vir ’n geruime tyd al nie behoorlik onderhou nie, maar om te verseker dat die spasie veilig benut kan word, gaan die Klerksdorp-tak voorts die park instandhou.
Bridget Kleu, die parkrun direkteur, het AfriForum bedank en gesê hulle is so dankbaar vir die instandhouding.
“Ons kry skaam vir die park as ons besoekers ontvang, wat dit word nie onderhou nie. Ons moet altyd op Vrydae gaan vullis optel, net om die plek beter te laat lyk, maar met die gras wat nou gesny word, lyk dit sommer stukke beter. Baie dankie.’’
NW police warn against bullying
Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - The South African Police Service in the province is concerned about the recently reported violent incidents at schools in the province that needed police intervention since the beginning of this year.
In one of the incidents reported during February 2024 at a high school, Grade 11 and 12 learners fought due to bullying and Public Order Policing (POP) members were mobilized to calm down the situation. In another incident, a common assault case was reported after a Grade 8 pupil was allegedly assaulted in the bathroom by older boys.
