NOORDWES – BIESIESVLEI - On Saturday, 31 May the police in Biesiesvlei were busy with regular patrols when they spotted a white Toyota Hilux looking suspicious near Omkyk farm.
The vehicle was stopped immediately and searched and six 50 kg bean bags were found.
Ramaphosa authorises SIU to investigate tender irregularities
NOORDWESTER – LICHTENBURG - President Cyril Ramaphosa has signed a proclamation authorising the Special Investigating Unit (SIU) to probe allegations of serious maladministration within the Department of Defence, specifically linked to the procurement of surgical mask elastic loops. The proclamation, signed into law as Proclamation 260 of 2025, empowers the SIU to investigate whether the tender process was conducted in a manner that was not fair, competitive, transparent, equitable, or cost-effective, and whether it violated any applicable legislation or instructions from the National or Provincial Treasury.
Blankets donated to elderly
NOORDWESTER - MAHIKENG - Trio community donated blankets to ten elderly persons at Majemsntsho. The eldery and the community were served with soup and bread during the event.
The blankets were donated by Ntando Qelo, Mpakisang Mokgothu, Maria Modukanele and Kutlwano Mokoto. The community donated the food and everyone’s contribution is highly appreciated by all. The organisers also thanked Lebogang Mokgothu for his input.
Foreigner arrested for contravention of Medicines Act
NOORDWESTER – ZEERUST - Tiritese Chimbwanda (43), a Zimbabwean national, appeared in the Zeerust Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 27 May, facing charges of contravention of the Medicines and Related Substance Act 101 of 1965.
Chimbwanda was arrested by members of the Border Management Authority on 25 May at the Kopfontein Border Post.
Atamelang buses and property destroyed
NOORDWESTER - LICHTENBURG - In a media statement, the MEC for Community Safety and Transport Management in the North West, MEC Wessels Morweng, commented on being worried by the lack of commuter transport on Atamelang routes to Mahikeng.
MEC Morweng said that he is worried, but not shocked by the unavailability of Atamelang buses on their designated routes around parts of Ngaka Modiri Molema District.
