Shavathon helps raise awareness about cancer

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The Cancer Association of South Africa’s Shavathon is in its 22nd year and what better way to celebrate than for the fund-raising and awareness campaign to focus on kindness.

Be Colourfully Kind is the theme for this year’s Shavathon. It kicks off with all-day events on Saturday February 24 throughout South Africa and continues with individual events held between February 26 and March 29 by workplaces, schools and organisations.

No Shavathon events have yet been confirmed in the Kosh Area. It needn’t be at a shopping mall, and schools and other organisations can also help by hosting shavathons to create awareness and raise funds for Cansa.

Empowering young minds through reading

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Avbob launched its third Road to Literacy campaign earlier this week.

In a strengthened collaboration, Avbob, in partnership with Oxford University Press Southern Africa (OUPSA), announced the campaign set to make an impact on South Africa’s literacy landscape by addressing the severe literacy crisis revealed in the latest Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) findings from 2021.

Vierfontein hou basaar

‘n Veteraan motorskou sal by die basaar gehou word. Skakel 072 451 7816 om jou motor uit te stal. Ulysses Motorfietsklub sal ook hul ysterperde uitstal. Kinders kan aan ‘n skietkompetisie deelneem, asook ‘n skattejag op fietse deur die dorp. Deelnemers moet net hul eie fietse saambring.

Besoekers sal kan snuffel en koop by verskeie stalletjies en heerlike basaarkos sal te koop wees.
Besoekers kan ook kaartjies koop vir ‘n ete om 11:30.

Insight in State of the Nation

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The Orkney Rotary Club will provide some insight into the State of the Nation address by hosting Prof Theo Venter at a dinner next week.

Prof Venter will be the speaker on Tuesday February 13 at Annvilla Guesthouse. Pres Cyril Ramaposa will deliver the State of the Nation on Thursday February 8.

Venter is from Potchefstroom and a Professor of Practice at the College of Business and Economics, University of Johannesburg. He will share his insight into the 2024 State of the Nation address.

Tickets cost R170 each and are available from the president, Ronel Strydom, on 082 336 9337. It will start at 19:00.

North West University at full capacity

Klerksdorp Record, Potchefstroom - The NWU has reached full capacity for its 2024 intake with no extra places available. More than 181 000 applications were received of which only 11 717 could be accommodated in terms of their approved enrollment targets.

“The NWU is proud of every Grade 12 learner who has completed their school careers successfully and want to wish them well in advance as they embark on their various endeavours. Unfortunately, we are just not able to accommodate any walk-ins who did not qualify during the application process last year,” said deputy registrar Prof Michael Temane.
