Orkney Tidy Town tired of overgrown stands
A small group of Orkney residents and business people are in the process to clean up areas where it’s not safe to drive or live due to large bushes and long grass. They established the Orkney Tidy Town (OTT) initiative and will mainly focus on areas where the Matlosana Municipality neglect to provide the required services. The group has tasked the mines in the area to assist with the clean-up of vacant stands in neighbourhoods. Specifically Vaalpark where several stands belong to AngloGold Ashanti and grass grows as tall as 1,68m. Photographed is a stand in Schiller Street where residents started cleaning to find blankets and clothes in the long grass, meaning criminals start to sleep in these empty stands.
