Klerksdorp Rekord, Klerksdorp - A local artist well-known for his craftsmanship with metal art sculptures is concerned after two of his sculptures were stolen in broad daylight.

The area on the corner of Dr Yusuf Dadoo- and Austin Street is known for its display of beautiful metal art and garden ornaments and the site has for years now been home to a select few to show and sell their exquisite work. One of the artists, the Mozambican Enias Chingombe has been trading from this spot for years, without incident except when two of his sculpted horses disappeared overnight two years ago.

Maya Brits (10) is op Saterdag 11 Januarie by die Leefstyl Volle Evangelie Kerk in Klerksdorp gegroet. Haar laaste rusplek was in ‘n melkskommel pienk kis. Groot sagte teddiebere het saam vertrek na die krematorium op Viljoenskroon waar sy veras is. Pa Pieter en ma Cathy was daar om finaal afskeid te neem.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The MEC of Education, Ntsetsao Motsumi, announced the three categories for top performing schools.

The categories are highest number of subject distinctions, highest number of candidates who qualify for admission to bachelor studies and the highest pass rate.

In the category highest number of subject distinctions (excluding LO) Hoërskool Rustenburg is in first place with 279 distinctions, followed by Potch Gimmies and Potch Girls High in third place.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - North West premier, Lazarus Mokgosi, welcomed the guests and he was in a good spirit at the City on a Hill church where the province’s matric results were announced. 

In his welcoming speech he announced that the new Bela Act will ensure access for all to free basic education and that Gr R will become compulsory for all students. “Education should be universal, equal and free,” he said.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - North West retained its fourth place in the top performing provinces with an improvement from the class of 2023 by 5.9%.

However, the DA is concerned by the decline in the uptake of gateway subjects, specifically physical sciences, accounting, and mathematics. “We are encouraged by the announcement by Education Minister, Siviwe Gwarube, that she will prioritise efforts towards improving early childhood education and foundational phase support which will capacitate young learners with the language and numeracy skills required for these subjects in later grades, which will improve overall academic performance,’’ said DA spokesperson, CJ Steyl.
