Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - For the first time ever, liquor stores in North West were open over the long weekend. The new North West Liquor Licencing Amendment Act came into operation on April 1.

It replaced the Liquor Act 27 of 1989 that ceased to operate on March 31.

The new act allows liquor stores to open their doors from 09:00 to 17:00 on Sundays and public holidays and from 08:00 to 20:00 on other days. Supermarkets that sell wine are allowed to sell liquor from 08:00 to 17:00 from Monday to Saturday, and from 09:00 to 17:00 on Sundays and public holidays.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - A Klerksdorp fugitive who has been on the run from the law since 2019, was hunted down in Mpumalanga.

Ironically Tebogo Mahlangu was attending court in Witbank on Friday April 11 on another case of robbery with aggravating circumstances when he was arrested for escaping from Klerksdorp.

At the time of his escape, Mahlangu was awaiting trial and incarcerated when he managed to get hold of a police officer’s firearm during a transfer from court. He and four accomplices involved in the 2015 robbery of diamond gravel near Wolmaransstad, escaped.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The city will soon boast a new power plant than can generate up to 99MW of electricity - enough to supply up to 65 000 homes with electricity.

The North West government has embarked on a joint venture with the City of Matlosana in a bid to address energy supply challenges. Provincial Economic Development Department officials handed over the Urban Blue International Gas-to-Power project to the city for implementation on Tuesday April 15.

Klerksdorp Record, Stilfontein - A Lesotho hitman who killed two people and injured five in a Kanana tavern shooting during 2022 was sentenced to life imprisonment for the double murder.

However, the man Mokhosi Mopheme Manama (34) was sent to kill that fateful Sunday night in 2022, survived the shooting after being shot eight times. Siyabonga Sikothi (22) and Lebohang Christoffer Mashei (24) were sitting outside the tavern with a group of friends when the gunman opened fire. 

They were killed and five others wounded.
