27 June 2025 - Klerksdorp Record, Ventersdorp - A company called CJC Precast (Pty) Ltd was summoned after failing to pay tax for five years.

According to the NPA, the company was fined R32 500 by the Ventersdorp Magistrate’s Court last week. 

The company was represented by its director, John Christopher Conroy (60). The company faced 65 counts of contravening the Tax Administration Act: failure to submit tax returns.

27 June 2025 - Klerksdorp Record, Potchefstroom - The future of the NWU’s Desmond Tutu School of Medicine was further consolidated with the signing of a memorandum of agreement between the university and the NW Department of Health.

This signing took place on Tuesday June 24 in Potchefstroom. 

“It is a privilege to be able to celebrate another milestone in the establishment of our medical school,” said Prof Awie Kotzé, executive dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences. It has been a long journey to reach this point, and this collaboration promises a long and successful future for the NWU Desmond Tutu School of Medicine.”

20 June 2025 - Klerksdorp Record, Stilfontein - The fight against illegal mining in the North West province is making progress with the Asset Forfeiture Unit (AFU) of the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) securing a preservation order for approximately 39 058 metric tons of gold-bearing material (GBM) valued at an estimated R16 million.

The order was granted by the North West High Court on June 13, in terms of Section 38 of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act 121 of 1998 (POCA).

The seized material is alleged to be the proceeds of unlawful activities. This action follows extensive investigations into illegal mining operations that reportedly took place between 2016 and 2020.
