Klerksdorp Rekord, Stilfontein - ‘n Bejaarde man is van moord aangekla nadat hy ‘n inbreker doodgeskiet het wat besig was om in te breek by sy huis in Cloetestraat.
Sydney Heyns (73) bedryf ‘n snoepwinkel vanuit sy huis. Volgens rdl Portia Burrell teiken inbrekers die huis nou en het hy reeds verskeie kere sake gemaak by die polisie. Vrydagaand 24 Oktober na 22:00 het ‘n inbreker weer deur ‘n venster gebreek om in te kom. Heyns het met sy vuurwapen losgebrand en die man doodgeskiet. Op sekuriteitsgroepe kan gehoor word hoe hy hygend na asem om hulp roep met die woorde: “Inbreker inbreker asseblief asseblief.’’
Fundraiser for accident reconstruction
Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The families of four young people who died in a motor vehicle accident in October last year, are raising funds on a crowd funding platform to help pay for private investigation fees.
Cherice Grobler, sister of one of the deceased, announced the Back a Buddy crowd funding campaign on Wednesday October 29.
Outrage over City’s wasted R11 billion
Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp – The findings by the Standing Committee on Provincial Public Accounts (SCOPA), which revealed that Matlosana Municipality has accumulated more than R11 billion in unauthorised, irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure were met with outrage.
This figure has nearly doubled from R6 billion in 2021/22, showing the extent of corruption, mismanagement, and a total collapse of accountability in the Municipality, said the Public Servants Association (PSA) in a press statement.
Miner missing for five months
Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Elvis Vers is still missing. The police in Orkney are requesting the community’s assistance in locating Vers (53), who resides in Orkney.
He was last seen by fellow mine employees early on May 2, when they were on duty and went down the mine shaft. Upon reporting off duty, they noticed that Vers was not amongst them and reported it to their supervisor. A search was conducted at the mine and surrounding areas without success.
Police cleaning up North West
Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The police operations conducted under the Safer Festive Season Operation Shanela II, between October 20 and 27, resulted in the arrest of 1 139 suspects.
The police are busy at vehicle check points (VCP’s), stop and searches, foot and vehicle patrols, and do regular compliance inspections at second hand dealers, scrapyards, recyclers, private security firms, at firearm dealers, formal and informal businesses, and farms. During these routine visits copper cables, explosives, tobacco products, liquor and a variety of drugs were seized.
