Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp – The findings by the Standing Committee on Provincial Public Accounts (SCOPA), which revealed that Matlosana Municipality has accumulated more than R11 billion in unauthorised, irregular, fruitless and wasteful expenditure were met with outrage.

This figure has nearly doubled from R6 billion in 2021/22, showing the extent of corruption, mismanagement, and a total collapse of accountability in the Municipality, said the Public Servants Association (PSA) in a press statement.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Elvis Vers is still missing. The police in Orkney are requesting the community’s assistance in locating Vers (53), who resides in Orkney.

He was last seen by fellow mine employees early on May 2, when they were on duty and went down the mine shaft. Upon reporting off duty, they noticed that Vers was not amongst them and reported it to their supervisor. A search was conducted at the mine and surrounding areas without success.

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The police operations conducted under the Safer Festive Season Operation Shanela II, between October 20 and 27, resulted in the arrest of 1 139 suspects. 

The police are busy at vehicle check points (VCP’s), stop and searches, foot and vehicle patrols, and do regular compliance inspections at second hand dealers, scrapyards, recyclers, private security firms, at firearm dealers, formal and informal businesses, and farms. During these routine visits copper cables, explosives, tobacco products, liquor and a variety of drugs were seized.

Klerksdorp Record, Orkney - The two men who died last week trying to open up a blocked sewer line in Orkney, were identified as Sammy Mangaleso Pule and Mojalefa Piet Medupe (38).

They were overpowered by methane gas while trying to clear a blocked manhole in Shakespeare Street on Wednesday October 15. Matlosana Fire and Rescue were called to the scene to retrieve their bodies. According to Col Adele Myburgh, police spokesperson, a third man who noticed they were in trouble and tried to rescue them, were also overpowered by the toxic fumes and rescued by his father. He was hospitalised after the incident.
