Election gets thumbs up - IEC: Free and fair election
Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - The Electoral Commission (IEC) has pronounced that the seventh general elections were free and fair as it released the final results on Sunday June 2. The African National Congress (ANC) achieved just over 40% support nationally, followed by the Democratic Alliance (DA) with almost 22%, uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party secured 14,59% and the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) with 9,5%.
Sabotage leaves hospital without water
Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - Klerksdorp Hospital has been experiencing water supply problems since last week. According to Dr Nkanyana Leburu, acting CEO of the Klerksdorp/Tshepong Hospital Complex, the hospital is experiencing this water shortage after “deliberate damage” to its Archbishop Tutu Street reservoir and “shameful theft” of four pumps that enabled uninterrupted water supply to Klerksdorp Hospital. This sabotage allegedly took place on Tuesday May 28.
Flu season in full swing
Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - It is now more than ever important to maintain good hand hygiene and sanitize where possible as respiratory infections are increasing at the start of winter. The Department of Health said that taking protective measures daily, including non-pharmaceutical interventions such as hand hygiene, will help to prevent the spread of respiratory infections including influenza.
