City Mall re-opens after safety fears

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - The management and owners of City Mall in Klerksdorp CBD are questioning the decision of Matlosana Municipality to close the shopping centre last week.

“It was unnecessary to close down the mall, as there was no public safety risk, which has also been confirmed by registered engineers. It is concerning and disappointing that little is being done to combat crime in town, as citizens are being terrorized daily in the streets for cellphones and valuables. We can confirm that the City Mall is safe for tenants and shoppers. We take the safety of our staff, customers and tenants very seriously,’’ said Naeem Karim, on behalf of 4th Storey, the company that owns City Mall.

Polisie ondersoek vier soldate se dood

Klerksdorp Rekord, Orkney - President Cyril Ramaphosa het sy medelye oorgedra na die dood van vier soldate die afgelope naweek terwyl hulle onwettige mynboubedrywighede probeer hokslaan het.

Die polisie ondersoek die dood van die vier mans wat Saterdagoggend 6 Julie dood in ‘n vraghouerstruktuur gevind is. Hulle was aan diens as deel van Operasie Vala Umgodi - ‘n operasie teen onwettige mynaktiwiteite by no 3-skag naby die geplunderde Oppenheimer stadion buite Orkney.

Klerksdorp Rekord, Klerksdorp - Andries van Tonder het soos enige bedagte bestuurder stadiger gery om deur ‘n slaggat te ry om sy motor se bande te beskerm, maar toe bots ‘n ander voertuig teen syne.

Sy vrou en kind het erge skok en sy vrou het moontlik haar nek beseer. Sy Honda Jazz is baie erg beskadig en sal “seker afgeskryf moet word”.

Hy en die vrou wat die bakkie bestuur het, is albei verseker.

Founder of MCC Spar passes away

Klerksdorp Record, Klerksdorp - Basil Michaelides passed away this week. He was 95 years old.

The patriarch of the Michaelides family was surrounded by his loved ones when he passed away at home at 15:22 on Tuesday July 9. He was well-known as a businessman in Klerksdorp and started the popular MCC Spar in Klerksdorp. Until very recently, he was still active the in store’s daily running.

According to his daughter-in-law, Angela, Basil moved to Klerksdorp in 1962 from Welkom and was a founding member of Spar SA. She describes him as the local godfather, lover of all animals and one who everybody asked for advice.
