Members of the local Korean Martial Arts Club Tang Soo Do in Klerksdorp competed in the 2024 Gauteng Korean Martial Arts Championship held in Pretoria. These students are all members of the North West Black Belt Academy. Master Louise Viviers (instructor), Theresa Stapelberg (gold, three silver and one bronze), Nicholas Caisley (two silver and a bronze), Logan Erasmus (gold, silver and bronze) and Aobakwe Due (silver) and (front) Jaxx Potgieter (gold and three bronze). Ashadiya Ashraf (three gold and a silver) and Rushinda Ashraf (three gold) also did well.
Klerksdorp Record, Potchefstroom - Klerksdorp athlete Liezel Gouws is no stranger to podiums, and on Friday May 17, her affinity for finishing races with a medal around her neck was on full display when she won bronze at the 2024 Para Athletics World Championships in Kobe, Japan.
Liezel finished third in the women’s 400m T37 race, and in doing so she also claimed South Africa’s first medal at the championships. In addition, she finished fifth in her long jump event.
Klerksdorp Record, Orkney - The first round of the battle of the clubs was presented with a resounding success at the Vaal River Boating Club on Sunday May 19.
The event started with the 60 km mini long haul that was run up and down the river in an exciting race. The first lap consisted of 16 km and the boats had to do four laps. Jono Schmidt (M35) who showed some incredible high speeds, unfortunately had to pull out of the race because of a cracked block. This caused a damper on the event, as everybody was waiting to see the long awaited challenge between him and the current world champion, Klerksdorp adrenaline junkie Renier le Roux.

The young dad competed in both the 80km and 119km rides. He finished the 80 km on his horse, BF Assault in a winning time of 3:52:44 - bringing home the Best Conditioned award in this division as well as Best of the Best.
