Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - Klerksdorp celebrated Human Rights Day this long weekend with a very successful blood donation drive.
The city’s favourite Italian, Mauro Madonni of Danté’s Pizza, was in ball and chains at the Klerksdorp Donor Centre on Saturday March 22.
Only 50 units of blood could set him free and with the help of Miss and Mrs Klerksdorp, an impressive 66 units of blood were collected, ensuring his freedom. The UCKG church youth from Jouberton also donated blood, promoting the importance of ‘young blood’. Teenagers from the age of 16 are encouraged to become blood donors. Lindie Wrench of the SANBS donor committee, said the event not only highlighted the spirit of community giving but also underscored the importance of blood donation in saving lives. “A heartfelt thank you to all who participated and made the day a meaningful success.”
Two arrested for illegal firearms
Klerksdorp Midweek, Kanana - Two men met with the long arm of the law last week when they were busted for being in possession of unlicensed firearms. On March 17, a tactical and crime intelligence led operation by Potchefstroom Public Order Police (POP), the Provincial Anti-Gang and Drug Team busted the two suspects for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition at Chris Hani Section in Kanana.
Acting on a tip-off, they intercepted a white Toyota Fortuner with Gauteng Province registration number.
Debat nodig oor selfone in skole
Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - Slimfone en kunsmatige intelligensie in skole het vinnig van randgesprekke tot kernkwessies in die onderwyssektor beweeg. Die Federasie van Beheerliggame van Suid-Afrikaanse Skole (Fedsas) se uitvoerende hoof, dr Jaco Deacon, vertel dat ’n bekende Kaapse skool selfoongebruik gedurende die skooldag verbied het en talle ander skole het sedertdien die voorbeeld gevolg.
Countrysanger tree op by opening van winkelsentrum
Klerksdorp Midweek, Klerksdorp - Michael D’Angelo het onlangs na Klerksdorp verhuis en dié countrysanger het al saam met van die land se grootste kunstenaars opgetree. Hy het op Dinsdag 18 Maart by Klerksdorp Rekord ingeloer om voorbrand te maak vir sy optrede by die opening van die nuwe Checkers by The Village. D’Angelo sing al bykans veertig jaar en het meer as 37 CD’s opgeneem. Hy het al die verhoog gedeel met groot name in die bedryf waaronder wyle Lance James en wyle Jody Wayne. Sy nuwe CD heet Don’t give up on me.
Amira sings songs from musicals
Klerksdorp Midweek, Potchefstroom - Music lovers can look forward to a musical production in early April with Holland’s Got Talent winner Amira Willighagen as the headliner. This Music Go Round concert will be performed in celebration of Amira’s 21st birthday as well as the tenth anniversary of Gelukskinders, a foundation she set up to make a difference in children’s lives.The concert will be presented on April 6 at the NG Kerk Miederpark with various Potchefstroom primary school choirs who will perform with Amira in a series of music from The Sound of Music and Mary Poppins.
