This month, we celebrate the school holidays with an easy recipe for the entire family - lightly toasted hamburger buns topped with a mix of fresh leaves, tomato slices, a garlicky mushroom, some strong cheddar cheese and a juicy minute steak.
Variations: Substitute minute steaks with thinly sliced sirloin steak. Or add a fried egg to create a breakfast version of this meal. Instead of hamburger buns, use bagels for some extra flair.
Tip: Lightly toast the inside of the hamburger buns in a hot pan and/or heat them in the oven before serving to prevent the bread from getting soggy.
Ingredients:
+-75g minute steaks for each bun
2 tablespoons of steakhouse sauce
1 x brown steak mushroom per bun
Garlic butter, 1 teaspoon per mushroom
Firm tomato, sliced thin
Mixed green leaves
Salt and freshly ground black pepper
Fresh hamburger buns, sliced
Butter, optional
Sauce (optional)
Mix together a tablespoon each of mayonnaise, chutney and
Worcestershire sauce to add on your burger.
1. Fill the mushroom with the garlic butter and bake 5-8 minutes in air fryer at 190°C - or heat a pan on medium-high heat, add a splash of oil and fry the mushrooms until they are cooked through. You can add the sliced tomatoes to fry until they are soft and caramelised on the outside or leave it uncooked. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper.
2. Season the minute steaks with salt and freshly ground black pepper and fry on a griddle pan on high heat for about 1 minute on each side. Brush with the steakhouse sauce and fry another minute on both sides. Set aside to rest.
3. Build each burger by layering the buns with fresh greens, tomato slices, cheese and a mushroom. Stack the minute steaks on top of each mushroom - and viola!
